Meeting Cancelled

Yesterday, unfortunately, Kim Blea was away on vacation during our scheduled meeting. We did observe some changes that could be made, like toilets and urinals. We also saw that lights were kept on when they didn't need to be. Just turning off lights can make a difference when it comes to energy saving. We couldn't get access to the kitchen because of the absent owner, but we will come back on Friday for a rescheduled meeting.

Meeting with Kim Blea

After our meeting with Kim, we found out that the restaurant is already making changes to help the environment. We asked about what kind of light bulbs the restaurant uses. We found out that the owner was changing to compact fluorescent light bulbs when the old incandescent light bulbs went dead. We didn't have enough time to talk into more detail because of time issues, but our next meeting is due next week at Wednesday.

First talk with owner of Tom's Burgers, Kim Blea

Just had my first talk with the restaurant's owner, Kim Blea. My partner and I came during lunch and had a discussion with Kim about the vegetable oil donation and about another, more convenient, time to meet. She was willing to donate her restaurant's used vegetable oil. I gave her information of my Chemistry teacher, Mr.Wold, to set up certain times and dates that he will be able to pick up the oil. Our next meeting will be tomorrow after school. We will be discussing how much Kim spends every month for electricity and water. My partner will be discussing where and how their unprepared food is transported. I will have more information after the meeting.

Project starts now...

I've already started making plans for Tom's Burgers. I'll be focusing on the energy aspect of the restaurant. My partner, Jacob, will be doing the transportation aspect of the restaurant. I've already talked to an employee at Tom's and have found out that they use soybean oil for all their frying needs. My next visit with the restaurant will consist of a tour around Tom's to check for things that can be powered with clean energy. I will also propose a possible donation of their used vegetable oil to Lompoc High. For more information, check out my partner's blog.
